Bolivia Cup Of Excellence Auction
Category: Coffee, Cupping | Leave a Comment
So this morning at least one sleepy Barefootian is eagerly watching the Bolivia Cup Of Excellence auction. Barefoot is bidding on a few lots of the incredibly tasty and wonderous Bolivian elixir. There were so many wonderful coffees this year it was hard to make a choice. But we did in fact narrow our selection down to our top three coffees and are furiously bidding for them as we speak.
Here are the Bolivian farmers watching the auction live in Bolivia! Super cool!
Stay tuned today for updates on the auction progress!

This is the first year that Finca Vista Hermosa has sold their micro-lots separately. When Barefoot visited the farm in February we worked to help them separate, roast and cup their different unique micro-lots. Out of the ten microlots the family harvests Barefoot hand picked our favorite four to present in 2007. Each of these lots will call to mind the wonderful richness and complexity that Finca Vista is famous for and that helped them win a #8 place in the recent Cup Of Excellence. But each microlot is unique on it’s own with it’s own special character. Each micro-lot has unique terroir, micro-climate, soil and varietal characteristics that shine through in the cup.
The Edlyna is a romantically savory coffee. It is feminine and soft but with powerful complexity. A sweet Gazpacho soup with flush Spanish Saffron, fresh nasturtium flowers, central valley strawberries and hints of kifir lime in the complex finish. Amazingly lush and heavy voluptuous body that coats your tongue with velvety goodness. Layers of raw cacao, cardomon and light chocolate wrap up this savory/sweet coffee love affair. Trust us on the savory notes. It sounds weird but it taste fantastic!
Edlyna Microlot Cuerdas: 200 (152.75 planted in coffee) Purchased: 1995 Springs: 2 Edlyna used to belong to Carmela Samayoa, a single mother who had inherited the land from her father Her father was a well known witch doctor. She sold simply because she wanted to move to the city. Edlyna was the name Edwin David Marinez would have been given had Edwin and Evelyn Martinez had a little girl. Because they never got to use that name they decided to name a property Edlyna instead. And join us in a special humanitarian effort to pay for much needed medical supplies for use by Doctors without Borders at the medical clinic we helped build last year on the Finca Vista Hermosa farm. For every pound of Vista Hermosa Guatemala sold Barefoot donates $.10 to the medical supplies fund. Be a part of something powerful and wonderful. Join us in building a truly sustainable coffee future. This is the fourth year that Barefoot Coffee has purchased coffee from this multiple award winning family farm. Our relationship with the Martinez family brings great rewards. Join us in supporting great coffee and great coffee people.
