Serious Coffee. Happy People.
Barefoot Coffee Roasters' entire existence is one thing: Striving for coffee perfection. We haven't reached it yet, but we are enjoying some amazing coffee on the way. Barefoot takes coffee pretty seriously and accepts no compromise in the pursuit of great tasting coffee.

Great Coffee is its own reward.
Great Coffee. Not very fancy or rico-suave but we like it. Barefoot keeps it simple; take great coffee, craft it with pride and passion, treat the whole coffee experience as a culinary art and operate sustainably from top to bottom. That's Barefoot.

Barefoot is a happy little cafe and roastery in the heart of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Barefoot's pretty stuck in the old ways of craftsmanship with hands and hearts beating computer chips any day. The Barefoot experience is quality, flavor and passion. Sure, Barefoot has been showered with awards and accolades of late as the Barefoot difference is discovered and shared, but we are true to our roots of great coffee and happy people above all else. We are really serious about coffee and that makes us really happy people. Great coffee, coffee as a culinary art and sustainability.

Three dollars may seem like a lot for some hot liquid, but any Portlander will tell you that coffee in this town is more Orient Express than Amtrak. Crisp espresso, sinewy foam, knowledgeable baristas and the comfort of a warm cafe—that’s luxury, and at three or four bucks, it’s pretty affordable. These are the cafes that do it best.

Extracto

The most exciting cafe in Portland right now, thanks to the looming launch of Cherry, a new small-batch roastery that will operate out of the space beginning this summer. In the meantime, Extracto offers beans from California’s excellent Barefoot Coffee Roasters, making it a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. 2921 NE Killingsworth Ave., 281-1764. Open daily.

get over there!

metro logoThis weekend we are burning up the love line to the wunderkinds over at Metropolis Coffee in Chicago. Tony and team roast up some fine coffee for the lucky people of the windy city. Barefoot Coffee is sending a little warm California sunshine over their way as well with a warm shipment of the Element espresso.

So starting Saturday morning Barefoot will have Redline Espresso on bar. Come on down.

REDLINE ESPRESSO

Redline Espresso is a truly distinctive and rewarding blend. Its richness runs down the center like a racing stripe, leaving a trail of cocoa, honey, lavender, and a mild merlot-like fruit in the finish. The flavors translate perfectly in milk and are even amplified in sweetness making for a marvelous latte or cappuccino.

Blind Assessment: High-toned, simple, classic aroma: orange, sweet tomato, hints of cedar and milk chocolate. In the cup a rich, roundly sweet-toned acidity dominates, with continued orange and milk chocolate notes that grow more distinct as the cup cools and the acidity softens. Lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Long, tartly sweet finish.

Who should drink it: A big, brightly sweet breakfast cup.

Due to the damn government confiscating our chairs today for sanitizing we have instituted a

Bring your own chair day!

so bring your own chair today cause we ain’t got none!

h-bullch.jpgToday the City of San Jose passed a new ordinance (bastard government!) that mandates set intervals for disenfecting and cleaning all “seating apparatus” or chairs as normal people call them. So we were forced to have all of our chairs removed and they are being deep cleaned and operated on today.

This new rule is a gross violation of both individual and business rights and strikes at the heart of the oppression we are covered in almost daily from the sticky hands of greedy government. It is an outrage and a travesty. We are forced to pay for a useless and meaningless action to appease special interest groups.  The ruling states that it is “Labor Friendly” so business owners are forced to use union labor to do this mindless task. So not only is it costing us $48.50 an hour for 10 “laborers” to clean and sanitize the chairs but they don’t even think they will be done until tomorrow! I HATE THE GOVERNMENT! Bring back Ross Perot!

So we deeply apologize but untill further notice there will be no chairs available at Barefoot Coffee Roasters cafe. Thank you for your understanding and patience and your strong horse stance.

This Friday the ‘Foot is inundated by music way weirder than the Mumlers! Flaccid Acid plays punk grunge with a raucousness rarely heard at Barefoot, and a gentleness rarely heard from Flaccid Acid. They’re joined by our own Disheveled Elephant presenting a sampler of their disparate sounds. Eat this music. It’s good for you.

Then on Saturday the San Jose Poetry Slam comes to Barefoot. Some slammers you know and love join some you’ve never heard of to tell you true things and gorgeous lies. Signups start a little before the show.
